Program History at the NDCA National Championship

The National Debate Coaches Association has held a National Championship Tournament each Spring since 2006. Driven by the desire to host a season-ending championship tournament run by high school coaches, the NDCA National Championships has grown into a premiere national championship that attracts the very best teams from throughout the United States.

Marist has taken thirty students to the tournament nine different years.  The program has finished ranked in the top 15 in the nation the past seven consecutive years in Public Forum and the top 20 the past two years in Policy debate.

In 2019, Sophie Verska’ 20 and Will Sjostrom ‘20 placed 3rd overall in the nation at the NDCA National Championships. This is the best finish for the program at a National Championship in school history.
